Midland Alloys Inc. is a reliable manufacturer and supplier of SS 317 and 317L welded tubes, providing plumbing solutions for harsh chemical and high-temperature applications where standard grades often fail. We use modern longitudinal welding lines to make precision tubing from stainless steel coils and plates, ensuring precise dimensional control and weld integrity throughout the process. Our stainless steel 317 welded tube has more molybdenum than 304 or 316, which improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich and acidic environments, where the SS 317L welded tube has less carbon, reducing carbide precipitation during welding and sensitisation risks in fabrication-heavy systems. We offer sizes ranging from 6 mm to 610 mm OD, with wall thicknesses beginning at 1 mm, in annealed, pickled, and polished finishes that meet ASTM, ASME and EN standards. As a reliable SS 317 welded tube supplier, manufacturer and exporter, we maintain ISO-certified production, full traceability, ready stock, and dependable global dispatch. Precision drives our work.

What is SS 317 and 317L Welded Tubes?

SS 317 welded tube and SS 317L welded tube are high-alloy longitudinal pipes formed by rolling stainless steel strips or plates into a cylindrical shape and joining the edges. We use modern TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or automatic laser welding techniques to ensure the seam is as strong as the parent metal itself. This manufacturing process results in a stainless steel 317 welded tube with excellent dimensional accuracy and a uniform wall thickness. These grades are essentially enhanced versions of 316 stainless steel, specifically designed to handle more aggressive acidic or chloride-rich process fluids. 317 has a lot of tensile strength, but 317L is better as it is easier to weld and is less prone to being damaged by intergranular forces. Our manufacturing adheres to global specifications such as ASTM A312 and ASME SA312 to ensure safety in high-pressure industrial cycles. These tubes just endure longer in industries that are harsh on them.

Benefits of Welded 317 and 317L SS Tubing

SS 317 and 317L welded tubing offers dependable strength and corrosion control in harsh process conditions. Engineers prefer these grades when chloride exposure, acidic streams, and elevated temperatures combine in the same system. Performance stays stable.

  • Excellent resistance to acids and aggressive chemicals
  • Higher molybdenum improves pitting resistance in chlorides
  • Reduced intergranular corrosion risk with 317L grade
  • Suitable for chloride-rich and marine environments
  • Good mechanical strength at elevated temperatures
  • Reliable service under pressure and heat
  • Smooth internal surface supports efficient fluid flow
  • Consistent dimensional accuracy in welded construction

Industrial Applications for SS 317 and 317L Welded Tubes

Stainless steel 317 and 317L welded tubes are used in oil and gas units, petrochemical plants, chemical processing facilities and power generation systems where corrosive, chloride-rich or acidic fluids flow through pipelines on a daily basis. Engineers use them for fluid transport lines, heat exchangers, and process pipes because a higher molybdenum content enhances resistance to localised corrosion in harsh environments. In food processing and water treatment plants, these tubes maintain cleanliness and structural stability. Structural supports in coastal or chemical zones also benefit from their durability. 317L, with improved weldability, suits fabrication-heavy installations and retrofit projects. Welded construction keeps costs controlled while delivering dependable corrosion resistance. Practical. Durable. Field-proven.

Why Choose SS 317 and 317L Welded Tubes

Engineers prefer these grades as they meet the gap between common stainless steel and expensive high-nickel alloys. The molybdenum-rich chemical composition protects against pitting and crevice corrosion, which are common problems in chemical processing lines. While 317 has a high strength, the 317L version is preferred for projects that require extensive welding due to its low carbon content, which prevents corrosion resistance loss at joints. Using these tubes ensures reliable, long-term performance when used in environments containing chlorides or hot acids. As an ISO-certified manufacture we provide export-quality shipments. Your infrastructure deserves durable materials.

FAQs

SS 317 contains higher carbon (up to 0.08%), while 317L limits carbon to 0.03%, improving weldability and reducing intergranular corrosion risk.

No. Most applications do not require post-weld heat treatment due to low carbon content, but it depends on the project requirements.

Yes. The higher molybdenum content improves resistance to acidic and chloride-containing media.
