What Is SS 316/316L Butt Weld Fitting?
Stainless steel 316/316L butt weld fittings are designed components used to create permanent welded joints in stainless steel piping systems. These fittings are made from austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum, classified as UNS S31600 for stainless steel 316 and UNS S31603 for stainless steel 316L. In the annealed condition, they remain non-magnetic and retain a stable grain structure during standard fabrication. The fittings are designed for seamless welding and cold or hot forming without loss of mechanical strength. Each ASTM A403 WP316 fitting is manufactured according to ASME B16.9 dimensional requirements and verified chemical standards. A stainless 316 buttweld fitting maintains its shape and structure after standard heat treatment. The 316L SS butt weld fitting is built for reliable integration into welded stainless systems.
Advantages of 316/316L Stainless Steel Butt Weld Fittings
- Molybdenum Content: Enhances pitting resistance and supports chemical stability in aggressive environments.
- Thermal Stability: Maintains mechanical properties under continuous high-temperature exposure.
- Austenitic Grain Structure: Ensures consistent shaping, forming, and stress distribution.
- Post-Annealing Strength: Retains strength and ductility after standard solution annealing.
- Weldability (316L): Low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding.
- Non-Magnetic Nature: Remains non-magnetic in the annealed state due to its austenitic phase.
SS 316 vs 316L Buttweld Fitting
SS 316 and SS 316L are molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steels with strong structural stability in harsh conditions. The main difference is the carbon concentration; ASTM A312 TP316L has less carbon than ASTM A312 TP316 which helps to avoid carbide accumulation when welding. This makes 316L easier to weld and less likely to face intergranular corrosion. Both grades hold their strength when exposed to high temperatures and maintain a stable austenitic grain structure during standard fabrication. In the annealed state, both remain non-magnetic due to their austenitic composition. SS 316 and 316L butt weld fittings are manufactured in line with approved chemical and dimensional standards.

SS 304/304L Buttweld Fittings Price Per Kg in India
SS 304 and 304L pipe prices in India vary based on pipe type, size, finish, and market demand. Rates fluctuate regularly due to changes in nickel content, steel base prices, and production costs. Our seamless pipes generally cost more than welded pipes due to higher production complexity. Pricing also depends on wall thickness, outer diameter, freight, and mill availability. Seamless pipes also attract higher GST and lead time, especially in non-standard lengths.

Resistance Capabilities
SS 304 and SS 304L pipes show strong corrosion resistance in fresh water, air, and most oxidising environments, thanks to their ~18% chromium content which forms a stable passive film. These grades handle dilute acids like nitric acid but offer limited protection in chlorides and hydrochloric acid. With excellent oxidation resistance, both perform well in temperatures up to 870°C intermittently and 925°C continuously, making them suitable for heat exchangers and furnace parts. Their pitting and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance is generally reliable, though care is advised in chloride-heavy conditions. SS 304L, with its low carbon content, helps reduce carbide precipitation during welding, enhancing durability in high-heat zones.
Manufacturing Process of 316/316L Buttweld Fitting
The process starts with choosing certified SS 316 or 316L billets or plates that meet strict quality standard. Depending on the type of fitting, we precisely cut the raw material. After that, heat or cold forming techniques are used to mold the parts into reducers, tees, elbows, and other shapes. After shaping, we apply solution annealing to improve the grain structure, and remove internal stress. Surface finishing follows, using pickling, passivation, or blasting for a clean, corrosion-resistant surface. Each fitting goes through final inspection and non-destructive testing to confirm quality and performance.
