Difference Between Stainless Steel SS904L Tubes vs SS316L Tubes
SS 904L contains higher levels of nickel (23–28%) and molybdenum (4–5%) compared to SS 316L giving it significantly improved resistance to sulphuric acid and chloride-induced corrosion. Although both grades have good formability and weldability the copper content of SS904L makes it more effective in extremely aggressive environments. It is perfect for chemical processing, marine, and pollution control systems because it resists corrosion much better than SS316L in reducing acids and chloride-rich solutions. Unlike SS316L, which might need extra processing in some circumstances, SS904L also resists intergranular corrosion without post-weld heat treatment.
