Midland Alloys Inc., a certified ASTM A789 Duplex Steel S31803 Tubes Manufacturer and Supplier in India, offers high-quality UNS S31803 tubes from Mumbai. Also known as 2205 or EN 1.4462, duplex stainless steel combines high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for tough environments. Our tubes meet ASTM A213 standards and include seamless, welded, and U-bend tubes. S31803 is used in oil & gas, desalination, and chemical industries thanks to its strong chemical compatibility. Compared to S32205, S31803 has slight differences that suit specific needs. With certifications like ASTM A789, PED and ISO 9001, we support international exports. Our main focus is timely delivery, personalization, and quality control.
What are ASTM A213 S31803 Duplex Steel Tubes
ASTM A213 S31803 Duplex Steel Tubes are seamless ferritic-austenitic stainless tubes used in boilers, heat exchangers, and high-pressure systems. The standard guarantees that these tubes fulfill strict specifications for heat performance, strength, and resistance to corrosion. UNS S31803, also known as 1.4462 Duplex 2205 Instrument Tubing, has a balanced microstructure of ferrite and austenite giving it high yield strength and excellent resistance to pitting, cracking and chloride stress corrosion. Its chemical composition, such is rich in chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, makes it ideal for oil and gas, chemical plants, and desalination systems
Key Benefits of Duplex Steel S31803 Tubes
Duplex Steel UNS S31803 tubes offer an excellent balance of strength and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for demanding environments. With higher yield strength than austenitic steels, they allow for reduced material thickness and cost savings. Their resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion makes them ideal for applications in chemical processing, oil and gas, and marine industries. These tubes also provide good weldability and durability, ensuring long-lasting performance in harsh conditions.
- Excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, even in chloride-rich environments.
- Higher strength-to-weight ratio compared to austenitic stainless steels.
- Maintains good weldability and formability, allowing ease of fabrication.
- Provides long service life in harsh industries like chemical processing, oil & gas, and marine.
- Resists stress corrosion cracking, which is a common failure mode in conventional stainless steels.
SS 304/304L tubes are a go-to choice for general-purpose applications, providing excellent corrosion resistance, weldability, and affordability. Compared to SS 316, which contains molybdenum, 304/304L offers less chloride resistance but comes at a lower cost. SS 321 includes titanium for high-temperature stability but is less weld-friendly than 304L. SS 310 offers excellent high-temp performance but is more expensive. Duplex 202 is more difficult to machine, and form but it offers greater strength and superior resistance to harsh environments. The selection of the appropriate grade depends on the environment, mechanical stress, temperature exposure and cost.

For high-temperature and high-pressure systems, stainless steel tubes’ physical and thermal properties are essential. For weight and structural stress calculations, the density of SS 304 and 304L, it should be approximately 7.93 g/cm³. Their melting temperature is between 1400–1450 °C, allowing for high-temperature applications such as heat exchangers and furnace components. Thermal conductivity is approximately 16.2 W/m·K at 100°C and will assist in accurate heat transfer designs. The thermal expansion coefficient is about 17.2 × 10⁻⁶/°C in the 0–100°C range, a consideration of great relevance in designing systems, that undergo thermal cycling. These values follow ASTM A480 and EN material standards.
The price of stainless steel 304 and 304L tubes in India ranges from ₹250 to ₹350 per Kg, depending on size, wall thickness, surface finish, and order volume. Mirror-polished or thick-walled variants may cost more. Prices also fluctuate with market demand and raw material availability. For the most accurate and competitive quote, buyers should reach out directly to Midland Alloys. Based in Mumbai, we maintain ready stock and offer fast delivery nationwide.
SS 304 and 304L tubes offer excellent resistance to corrosion in oxidising and mild reducing environments. Their resistance to moisture, various acids, alkalis and cleaning agents makes them appropriate for use in food-grade, chemical, and marine applications. It don’t rust easily, even in environments that are acidic or rich in chlorides, and can withstand oxidation at high temperatures. For example, they perform well in food processing plants using acidic cleaners or marine setups with salty air exposure.

SS 304/304L Pipe Price Per Kg in India
SS 304 and 304L pipe prices in India vary based on pipe type, size, finish, and market demand. Rates fluctuate regularly due to changes in nickel content, steel base prices, and production costs. Our seamless pipes generally cost more than welded pipes due to higher production complexity. Pricing also depends on wall thickness, outer diameter, freight, and mill availability. Seamless pipes also attract higher GST and lead time, especially in non-standard lengths.

Resistance Capabilities
SS 304 and SS 304L pipes show strong corrosion resistance in fresh water, air, and most oxidising environments, thanks to their ~18% chromium content which forms a stable passive film. These grades handle dilute acids like nitric acid but offer limited protection in chlorides and hydrochloric acid. With excellent oxidation resistance, both perform well in temperatures up to 870°C intermittently and 925°C continuously, making them suitable for heat exchangers and furnace parts. Their pitting and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance is generally reliable, though care is advised in chloride-heavy conditions. SS 304L, with its low carbon content, helps reduce carbide precipitation during welding, enhancing durability in high-heat zones.
Difference Between 304 and 304L Stainless Steel
Manufacturing Process of 304/304L Stainless Steel Tubes
SS 304/304L tubes begin with raw stainless steel billets, which are heated and then pierced or extruded into hollow forms. For seamless tubes, the process involves hot extrusion followed by cold drawing to achieve precise dimensions. Welded tubes are manufactured by rolling strips of stainless steel into tube form and then welding along the seam. The tubes are shaped, annealed to remove stress, pickled to strip away oxidation, straightened, inspected and tested for mechanical properties, surface finishes and dimensional tolerances. We uses both internal and external testing to make sure that each tube satisfies stringent quality standards.

Applications and Uses of Stainless Steel 304/304L Tubes
SS 304/304L tubes are widely used due to their strength, clean surface and resistance to corrosion. In the food and beverage industry, they provide hygienic piping and fluid transfer. Tubes used in chemicals and pharmaceuticals can withstand corrosive substances. The oil & gas industry uses these tubes in process lines and offshore buildings. Construction industries utilize them for structural frames, whereas marine and water treatment plants use them for their salt and moisture resistance. They are also used in automotive exhausts, heat exchangers, and architectural elements.
