What is ASTM A213 S32205 Duplex Steel Tubes?

ASTM A213 S32205 tubes are seamless stainless steel tubes made from duplex grade 2205. These tubes are meant for use in high-temperature devices such as superheaters, heat exchangers and boilers. Our Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Tubes follow ASTM A213 standards to ensure strong, safe, and long-lasting performance. S32205 is a duplex stainless steel that combines high strength with excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in harsh environments.  It has about 22 percent chromium, 5–6% nickel, and nitrogen, which help it withstand stress corrosion, pitting, and cracking. These tubes, also known as Duplex 2205 tubing or DIN 1.4462 seamless tubes, are widely used in chemical plants, marine systems, and power generation facilities.

Advantages of Duplex Steel S32205 Tubes

Duplex Steel UNS S32205 tubes offer a unique balance of strength and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for challenging environments. These tubes provide excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking while maintaining high mechanical strength. Their superior weldability and durability ensure reliable performance in industries such as chemical processing, oil and gas, and marine applications.

  • High strength combined with corrosion resistance
  • Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking
  • Superior performance in chloride-rich environments
  • Good weldability and formability
  • Longer service life in harsh conditions
  • Cost-effective compared to higher nickel alloys
  • Suitable for marine, offshore, and chemical applications
Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Tubes vs Other Grades

Duplex Steel UNS S32205 tubes offer a strong middle ground between standard stainless steels like 304 and 316 and higher-end super duplex grades like S32750. Compared to 304 and 316, S32205 has much better corrosion resistance, especially against pitting, crevice attack, and stress corrosion cracking. It also has nearly twice the strength, which means thinner walls can often do the work. Weldability is good with proper practices, making it suitable for fabrication. Even though S32750 is stronger and more resistant to corrosion, it costs more and can be more difficult to weld.

Specification of Duplex Steel S32205 Tubes

Duplex Steel UNS S32205 seamless tubes are manufactured as per ASTM A789, ASME SA789 and DIN 1.4462 standards. These tubes have accurate dimensions, great strength, and excellent resistance to corrosion. Sizes range from 1/8″ NB to 30″ NB with wall thickness from SCH 5 to SCH XXS. Pickled, annealed, or polished surface treatments are provided in lengths up to 6 meters or as needed. Each tube comes with full certification, including EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 Mill Test Certificates.

Difference Between Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Tubes and UNS S31803 Tubes

Both UNS S32205 and UNS S31803 are duplex stainless steels with similar corrosion resistance and strength. However, UNS S32205 is a refined version of S31803, with tighter limits on chromium, nickel, and nitrogen content for better performance. S32205 is perfect for high-pressure or offshore applications because of its enhanced resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking. While S31803 suits general industrial uses, engineers often choose UNS S32205 over S31803, when consistent strength and durability are critical. The choice between UNS S32205 vs S31803 depends on the specific demands of the project.

Manufacturing Process of Duplex S32205 / 1.4462 Tubes

We start with high-quality raw materials chosen for strength and corrosion resistance. Bars are preheated to ensure smooth shaping. Through hollowing, we form the initial tube shape, then size it as needed. The tubes go through heat treatment to improve strength and remove internal stress. The surface is then descaled to remove any oxide coatings. The outside and interior dimensions are refined for tight tolerances through precision drafting. Final sizing ensures the tube matches exact specs. Every batch is tested for quality, surface finish and strength before packing. Finally, the tubes are prepped for dispatch with full traceability.

Applications and Uses of Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Tubes

Duplex Steel UNS S32205 tubes are utilized in marine and seawater systems for pipes, heat exchangers, and ballast water systems because they are resistant to saltwater corrosion. In desalination plants, they carry high-chloride water through evaporators and brine heaters without cracking or rusting. These tubes are used in transfer lines, pressure vessels and reactors in chemical processing facilities that deal with corrosive fluids like acids and solvents.  They provide support for critical cooling and piping systems in nuclear power facilities. Automotive manufacturers use them in exhaust systems, structural supports, and fuel lines that demand durability under heat and stress. Fire-fighting systems use these tubes for sprinkler networks and water delivery lines exposed to harsh environments.
