Stainless Steel 317/317L Pipes Manufacturer & Supplier

Midland Alloys Inc. is a well known Indian manufacturer and global supplier of Stainless Steel 317/317L Pipe. These pipes are made to meet demanding industrial environment with superior corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. ASTM A312 TP 317L is a molybdenum bearing austenitic stainless steel that perform exceptionally under elevated temperatures. The pipes are made using a variety of methods such as seamless and welded techniques and the alloy is heat treated with a solid solution to increase its strength. The demanding requirement of industries like petrochemical and power are met by ASME SA312 SS 317L Pipes, which have high yield strength, elongation exceeding 35% and exceptional pitting resistance. While 317L stainless steel pipe with its low carbon content, is perfect for welded applications where post-weld annealing isn’t practical, Type 317 offers improved tensile and creep strength at high temperatures. In continuous service up to 925°C, both grades offer exceptional resistance to oxidation and both localized and general corrosion.

Benefits of Using WNR. 1.4438 Seamless Pipe

Stainless Steel 317 and 317L Pipes deliver enhanced mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, making them a reliable choice for aggressive environments:
  • Outstanding resistance to pitting and intergranular corrosion
  • Better corrosion resistance than SS 316L in environments with a lot of chloride
  • Strong mechanical properties at high temperature
  • Better resistance to creep and stress rupture
  • Outstanding weldability without the need for post weld heat treatment
  • Preserves structural integrity in situations involving high pressure.
  • A smooth surface finish that is appropriate for food-grade and hygienic applications
  • Additional flexibility is provided by high elongation properties.
Stainless Steel 317/317L Pipes Specification
Difference Between Stainless Steel 317 and ASME SA312 SS 317L Pipes
Stainless Steel 317 Pipe contains a higher carbon content (max 0.08%) compared to 317L Stainless Steel Pipe (max 0.03%), giving 317 slightly better tensile strength but making it less suitable for welding without post-weld annealing. 317L, on the other hand, provides better resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly in welded structures. Similar chemical elements such as molybdenum (3–4%), nickel (11–15%), and chromium (18–20%) are present in both grades; however, 317L is recommended for applications requiring welding and critical corrosion conditions. The mechanical strength of both grades is comparable but 317L provides higher elongation (40% vs. 35%).

Applications of Stainless Steel 317/317L Pipes

Industries with high temperatures, pressures and corrosive conditions frequently use 317L stainless steel pipes. In air pollution control systems, especially flue gas desulfurization units, these pipes resist acidic gases and condensation. They are used for handling concentrated acids in the chemical and petrochemical industries, and their hygienic, corrosion-resistant surfaces are advantageous in explosives and food processing facilities. They safely move aggressive fluids in the refining of petroleum. The pulp and paper industries use them in bleaching processes where chlorides are present, and power plants depend on their thermal stability in condenser systems.
